This is a common question I get often;
Do I start a WordPress blog or a Squarespace blog?
And the truth is they are both great and for different reasons. It really depends on what you want to do with your blog/website. I have used both blog platforms and I do like both so I can understand how it can be a bit overwhelming choosing between the two.
So Let’s Compare:

WordPress
Positives:
- Endless customization
- Easily create a blog + portfolio + shop all in one
- Developers created millions of plugins which can be added to your blog
- More industry standard, more things are compatible with WordPress
Negatives:
- More complicated to understand
- Hard to setup if you don’t have experience
I recommend WordPress for:
- People who are looking to create a business with their blog
- Anyone wanting to create a more complex site
- Any team blogs (there are many plugins to manage a team on wordpress)

Squarespace
Positives:
- Easy to use
- Built in Mobile themes
- Security built in
- Hosting and domains are built in and easy to install
Negatives:
- Limited customization
- Hard to adjust with you
I recommend Squarespace for:
- People who want to setup a quick and easy portfolio
- Those that only need a simple landing page
- Someone who doesn’t have time to learn the basics of WordPress and wants a simpler solution

I hope that was helpful!
If you are still not sure which direction to take feel free to describe what you want to do in the comments below and I’ll be happy to guide you 🙂
I started up a blog about a week and a half ago, I am using wordpress and I wanted to know if I could buy a wordpress theme from like Etsy and upload it to my blog without having to be on a subscription plan?
Hi Taylor 🙂
First question I have is are you using WordPress.com or WordPress.org? Then I would say most themes do not require a subscription plan, in fact I don’t think I ever paid for one for a theme. If you look on our resources page I listed a few places you can buy wordpress themes from (I tried all of those).
WordPress.com, everytime I tried to upload a theme it made me pick a plan 🙁
Hi Taylor 🙂
So WordPress.com is not the same thing as WordPress.org and it is very limited. It doesn’t allow you to instal the endless wordpress plugins and themes you hear about. I don’t recommend using wordpress.com, I would say use squarespace if you want to go that route. If you do want to use WordPress.org you can export all your blog posts and files to a wordpress.org account.
That might be a bit confusing to setup at first but once it’s setup it looks pretty similar on the backend to wordpress.com. To set that up you first need a host (like bluehost.com) and a domain (your own url, which you can get at bluehost as well).
Google the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org to learn a bit more on that and let me know if you need further help 🙂
I also offer one on one consulting if you need help setting that up.
I started a blog page, but I’m unsure of how often to post? I don’t want my followers to get bored, but I also don’t want them to get annoyed with me either. Any ideas?
Hello Reggie 🙂
First, congratulations on starting a blog! What is the link? I’d love to check it out!
I’ve tested posting daily and posting 3 times a week and I can say it depends on your audience. If you’re a quality over quantity blog, in that your posts are personal and you want people to really read them, then I would recommend 2-3 times a week. If you are trying to make your blog a business and wanting to grow your audience to a large following then you’re looking at posting daily, or if you have enough contributors even more than once a day. I’m sure there’s no perfect number in general but is more specific to you, your goals, your topic and your audience. That said, I know when we wanted to partner with a large fashion affiliate program, to even be considered for the application they required you to consecutively post 3+ times a week. I did notice being reliable to the days you post is very important and creating a schedule is essential.
Hope this helped! <3
