Sweetheart of the Month
-Megan Krupka-
1) Please introduce yourself! We’d love to get to know you.
Hi new friends! I love this… I love making new friends haha. My name is Megan Krupka and I’m currently living in Minneapolis, MN. I am twenty years old, and have lived here my whole life. I’m a fulltime student during the year but for the summer I’m workin’ my life away. I am a business major at a small private college but am moving to Seattle this upcoming fall to attend different school! I have the hopes (and dreams) of someday being able to own my own business. My favorite color is pink, my favorite band is Bleachers and you can usually find me behind the camera taking photos of my friends – or eating ice cream if we’re being completely
honest haha.
2) We notice you are also a creative. What is one of your favorite creative projects and
why?
For the past few weeks I’ve been working on something super exciting! I’ve always wanted my
own website/ blog and I’ve finally been working towards making that dream come true. I love
taking photos and being able to tell the story behind them – or just being able to say what has
been on my heart lately.
My all time favorite little creative thing to do would probably be editing photos on VSCO… I
love putting on different filters and adding grain to just about anything.
3) What is your favorite piece of literature and why?
My first ever favorite book series was Harry Potter.
Now, my favorite piece of literature would probably have to be anything by C.S. Lewis. The
Problem of Pain has been one of favorites for a while now. I love reading literature that tests
what I believe in. Being able to read a book that tests my faith and why believe what I believe in
is always interesting to me.
4) The Sweetheart persona is all about kindness. Who has had the biggest influence in your
life when it comes to being taught how to be “kind?”
My mom has had the biggest influence on my life when it comes to being taught how to be kind.
My mother is by far the kindest person I know. She has taught me so much about being kind,
even when everything in me didn’t feel kind.
Even when she had a bad day, she would show kindness. When everything was falling apart in
her world, she still would show me kindness. I get emotional thinking about how kind my mom has been even when I didn’t show the same kindness back.
5) The Sweetheart persona is all about being in good company. What is your favorite
memory with your friends?
One of my favorite memories that I have with my friends is so simple, but honestly makes me
cry thinking about it. (Cry in a good way. Don’t worry).
I can vividly remember three of my best friends and I laying on the floor of my dorm last year
talking about how different our lives would be next year – it was kind of sad, but it made me
realize no matter how far away we may be from each other, we would always be each others
biggest fans. We would always be rootin’ for each other and always wish the best.
We laughed, we cried and we ate ice cream and studied for finals that night. It sounds like such a
small memory but it’s one of my favorites. Every time I get nervous about not being close to my
friends, I remember that night. Things weren’t perfect, but that night was perfect with them.
6) What makes your heart beat? What do you believe in, stand for, and want to tell others
about?
Oh man… just about everything makes my heart beat! When I was younger I didn’t find
anything very interesting. I thought that everything around me was expected to be there. But, as I
got older, I realized that everything around me was a gift – and my adolescent expectations were
soooooo wrong.
Good music, being with good friends, and just being able to see the world makes me feel so
giddy inside. Oh, and the sunrise and sunset. I was driving downtown last week and honestly got
butterflies in my stomach looking at how pretty the sunset was. I mean come on! It was seriously
like God painted cotton candy colored clouds.
As of late I’ve really stood for loving others and myself. I know, how cheesy does that sound.
But, it’s so true and holds so much weight on how you, as an individual sees yourself, and how
you view others. It’s okay to be different than the girl next to you! It’s such a cool thing that we
are all different and that no one is going to be exactly like you. In this crazy world of social
media where everyone seems to have it all together, I often times have to remind myself that
Instagram and other social media platforms are basically a highlight reel of someone’s life – no
one puts the heartbreak, brokenness, or hard times in the highlights, you know? We’re all doing
our best out here – so show some love.
I just want the people around me to know that the world is so much bigger than what we have
created online – (I should take my own advice right here… haha).
I want others to know that it is okay to be different and it is more than okay for them to be
themselves. Individuality is such an amazing thing – and I love seeing it.
7) What do you do? And what led you to choose this path?
At the moment I’m a full time student – but, before I was heading into college, I had no idea
what I wanted to do. I thought that if I threw myself into college right after I graduated high
school that I’d somehow find some sort of inner calling for what I should do with the rest of my
life. To be honest, I thought I had to go to school in order to find some sort of career path, which
for a lot of people holds to be completely true. But, for me, I found what I truly loved doing by
simply surrounding myself with people who loved being creative as well. I surrounded myself
with other individuals who were focused on owning their own business, and I realized that was
something I’d hope to work towards as well. I no longer felt the pressure of needing a
“conventional” job, but rather found peace in knowing that I will find something I love doing,
even if that means I’ll someday be my own boss (which seems so scary and exciting at the same
time!)
8) If you could describe your ideal day, how would it go?
Hmm… I would wake up, put on some music, and take my time puttin’ on some makeup and curling my hair. I’d probably change outfits about 6 times before I found the perfect one then I’d leave to hangout with some friends. It’d be fall -MN weather can be unpredictable but in the fall it’s perfect. OH! And hopefully I’d see some dogs… I love dogs.
