Interview:
1) Please, introduce yourself! We would love to get to know you better.
Hello, I’m Jomana and by day I’m a graphic designer, designing stationery and other retail goods for events. By night/weekend/any available moment, I’m also a lifestyle blogger over at ahappyblog.com. I live in Southern California, moving here at a young age from my hometown of Toledo, Ohio. I love, I’m talking LOVE coffee, and enjoy it more when paired with a good magazine. I have an unhealthy obsession with gummy bears. I love to dance and have studied Ballet and Jazz since I was 14. I’m married to my high school sweetheart and have 2 beautiful daughters who keep me very busy!
2) We notice you are also a creative, what is one of your favorite creative projects you have done and why?
A while back I hand lettered a chalk art piece for The Honest Company. It was one of my first large scale pieces and I was given the creative control of designing the layout. It was so fun to take it from sketch to reality and I was so happy with the result, that it started my love for hand lettering and chalk art.
3) The Sweetheart persona loves being in good company. What is your favorite memory with your friends?
I love the simplest hangouts with my friends especially when we’re just out trying a new restaurant and ordering everything off the menu! One my favorite memories is when we all decided to try a Trapeze class and none of us chickened out!
4) What is your favorite piece of literature and why?
Pretty much anything written by William Shakespeare. I fell in love with his work when first introduced to it in high school and have been a fan ever since. I was always partial to Hamlet, something about the dialogue is just so genius.
5) The Sweetheart persona is all about kindness. Who has had the biggest influence in your life when it comes to being taught ‘how to be kind’?
My father was the kindest, sweetest person growing up and I’d like to hope that I inherited some of that from him. He was always such a source of comfort for me, I strive to be like him each day.
6) What makes your heart beat? What do you believe in, stand for?
My heart beats really for my 2 girls. I try to instill in them my strong belief that we should want for others what we want for ourselves. I really believe in that, and I think if I just keep this mantra alive I can’t go wrong, right?
7) What do you do and what led you to choose that path?
As mentioned before I’m a graphic designer and blogger. My technical life path should have led me to a career in science (hello Neuroscience degree), however it was the other side of my brain that always steered me to the creative that brought me where I am now. I’m really a person who believes that if you like something you should give it go. I obviously don’t let age, or education, or society dictate if you can do something. This may explain why I took up Tap and Gymnastics just recently as an adult. I’ve always wanted to try it, so why not?!
8) If you can describe your ideal day how would it go?
It would start with the most perfect latte ever poured, followed by Ballet class. Then I would put back in all those calories with a delicious brunch with my friends. Then a day filled with zero computer or printer glitches, on to some shopping where everything is on sale, and finish with dinner at the latest restaurant, possibly followed by an impromptu dance party.
