Creative OF The Month:
-Sarah Schmidt-
1) Tell us a little bit about yourself and why you consider yourself a Creative.
Hello! My name is Sarah and I’m an Interior Designer from San Diego, California. I own my residential design business and I’m also a Lifestyle Editor for a children’s magazine called Babiekins. I spend a lot of time shopping for my clients but when I’m not shopping, I am remodeling my own fixer upper or dreaming up my next big project. I love both the beach and the desert equally and don’t make me choose between frozen yogurt and nachos.
I would consider myself a creative person because well, to put simply, I’m always creating something. Whether it’s a space plan, a color scheme, or a full house remodel, I never stop dreaming and designing.
2) Who inspires you the most?
There is so much inspiration in interior design right now. I am constantly inspired by so many amazing designers in my field. A few of my favorites are Amber Lewis, Shea McGee, and Becki Owens.
3) When did you know you wanted to be an interior designer?
I think really early on I knew interior design was my calling. Around age 12, I finally got my own bedroom and saved my babysitting money to buy new furniture and paint. I attended an art school in college and I remember the first day of my drafting class, I felt right at home.
4) What store or company expresses your interior design style best?
It’s hard to pick just one store to define my design style. I’d say my personal style is a mix of West Elm, Anthropologie and World Market.
5) What is the most favorite room that you’ve ever worked on?
Each new project I complete becomes my new favorite. My last project was a neutral farm style master bathroom. It was such a great neutral color palette with grey floors and white walls and finished off with a printed cement tile tub surround.
6) What would be your biggest and wildest dream concerning your creative talent?
My big dreams include designing an entire space for a brand (possibly one of the companies mentioned above) and traveling for design projects around the world.
7) What color best describes you?
My middle name is Joy so I’d say the color that best describes me would have to be yellow because it symbolizes joy and happiness.
8) What makes your heart beat? What do you really believe in, stand for, and want to tell others about?
My work really makes my heartbeat. I look forward to designing everyday which is how I know I’m right where I am meant to be. What I want to share with others is, you can be anything you set your mind to. Set goals and write them down. I always wanted to own my own business. But owning your own business is not glamorous. It’s hard work. But it is also very rewarding. And setting your own schedule is one of the biggest benefits.
