If you have ever thought to yourself, “There is no way I could be #TheCreative persona, I am not artistic at all!” then this blog post is for YOU, my friend. Let me start off by saying that I am RIGHT there with you.
Never in a million years would I describe myself as a “creative” in fact, the title of this post really should be How to Be Creative, for the Non-Creative… but seriously. I am #TheFashionista through and through so, to be honest with you guys, this is way out of my comfort zone.
But here at Grâce Belle, we strive to “live life beautifully” and that means trying new things, right?? So do not fret because we are in this big messy creative design process together!
Today, I thought I would show case just one simple way to spice up your living room and be creative in the process! I pushed my creative boundaries by coming up with crafty alternatives using household items I already had. I guess we can call this the “Cozy Living Room Nook DIY” for lack of a better term!
Here is what my cozy corner looks like:
Now, this may seem intimidating, but TRUST ME: it is not intense as it looks. All that you need to complete this crafty DIY is these simple things:
- Flowers/Leaves from any bouquet or left over from a centerpiece (I got mine from a friend’s birthday party)
- Twine (holla @ the Target $ Spot)
- Imagination (cheesy, but it’s true)
Literally, that is it! All that I did to create this look was start with a plan and think out of the box on how to achieve the look I wanted. For example, we do not have curtain rods and because of the way our window is built, it would be difficult to install them in. So I had to get creative by taking the twine and stringing it around the blinds holder a bunch of times until it was securely fastened. Then I ran the curtains (literally $8 from Ikea) through the twine and tightened until it felt sturdy.
Now I know that this will look different in each home depending on your window but the point is to get creative! I had a problem and worked around it by using what I had.
Next step is wrapping the twine around the dried out flowers and eucalyptus leaves and then attaching that string to the window seal. Any flowers will look beautiful once you hang them upside down for a couple of days, and the best part is they last forever! These leaves have been going strong since last October!
Now to make the corner more cozy, and specific to you, find little nick-nacks around your house that add the final touches. My roommate and I both had these beautiful chairs (both from Target) so we decided to make this corner a little reading area.
We threw in a random create and turned it on its side to make a little side table (you can find those easily at Marshalls or even Home Depot). To finish it off we added a lantern that one of our friends had as a centerpiece at her wedding!
In the end, it turned out to be one of my favorite little projects because of the quirky touches we added to make it our own. The point is, whether you are defined as #TheCreative or not, we all have the ability to push our creative capacities and see what we can make! I encourage you to choose a corner of your home to spice up, create a vision, and JUST DO IT!
And that my friends, is one step to being more creative.
