My birthday was yesterday! So, in honor of my twenty trips around the sun, I thought I would share a few lessons I’ve learned. Here goes!
1. Jesus is alive, He’s the savior of the world, and He loves you.
I had to start with this one because after years of growing up in the Christian faith, studying it myself, and having personal interactions with Jesus in prayer and worship, I have never been more convinced that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who died and rose again to set me free!
2. Prioritize female friendships.
This is such a huge one! I grew up with primarily guy friends and its only been recently that I am realizing what I have been missing! There is such a beautiful thing about having people in your circle who can relate to the joys and frustrations of being a girl!
3. Ask for help.
We were designed to function in community! If you are trying to tackle life’s hardships alone, you’re doing it wrong. I have found so much freedom in letting people in on what I am struggling with.
3. Your Instagram account is not as big of a deal as you think it is.
I loveeee instagram and I think it is such a great tool to network and relate to others. But I have to remember that the likes I get, the followers I have- these things have such little significance in the long run! Gotta keep things in perspective!
4. Take risks.
I made the difficult choice to pursue a career in acting this year (my dream since I was a kid!) and it has been one of the best decisions of my life. I get to do what I love on a regular basis, and work doesn’t feel like work at all. Life is so short, don’t play it safe!
5. Eat more vegetables.
I hate this one. Salads are like the worst. But I’m working on it.
6. The right guy will come- and you won’t be expecting it.
I spent my whole life chasing after guys who would never like me back. It was frustrating and defeating. It turns out, my knight in shining armor was my best friend who lived down the street. It wasn’t until I stopped chasing those guys and learned to be content that the Lord rocked my world by bringing Andrew into the picture.
7. Love languages matter.
Learning that people give and receive love in specific ways has transformed how I love the people around me and how they make me feel loved! It’s awesome!
8. Don’t use bronzer as base makeup.
6th grade was a rough year. I looked like a Jersey Shore wannabe.
9. Be intentional in your relationships.
It took me awhile to learn that people are not going to flock to me and friends probably won’t fall into my lap! Shocker! Haha although it can be scary for an introvert like myself to reach out sometimes, it has proven itself worth it every time.
10. Always use heat protectant on your hair before curling it.
It took years of damaged hair for me to finally learn this lesson! Ladies, protect your hair!
11. Living a healthy life is more important than the number on the scale.
Eat well! Be active! And stop freaking out about it!
12. Birthdays are a big deal.
A whole day where you get to make someone feel loved and special?! Count me in! I freaking love birthdays. I will always make them into a big deal.
13. Choose to be vulnerable.
I have never regretted choosing to share my experiences with someone. We have so much to learn from each other and honesty is an incredible way to relate to others and to show love.
14. The Bible is worth reading and studying.
I have access to the living, breathing Word of God! Why in the world would I not take advantage of that? The Bible is incredible!
15. Coffee is the best.
Yep.
16. You are enough.
I never have to feel like I don’t measure up because my identity is in Christ, and He loves me exactly how I am today. I am free to be confident in myself and who I was created to be!
17. Alone time is important.
I love my introverted-ness. It took me awhile to get to that point, but I am such a happier, healthier person when I am prioritizing my need to recharge by myself.
18. Spend time in nature.
Colorado is amazing. The mountains are beautiful! I have no excuse to spend my days indoors!
19. Embrace life’s seasons.
Each season has new lessons to teach and relationships to build. Whether its a good season or a hard one, I am learning to be grateful for them.
20. You have so much to be thankful for.
Each year I am on this earth, I realize how fortunate I am to have such incredible people and experiences in my life. The Lord has been good to me, friends! And I am celebrating!
