It can be frustrating and discouraging when you find yourself at a loss for inspiration. Inspiration plays a great part in keeping your creativity alive. As a creative, it can be challenging to not only find but maintain inspiration. So, what should you do when you find yourself in some great need for inspiration?
The important thing I have come to learn is that inspiration can come in different forms. It can be as simple as making the littlest change in your routine in order to light that creative spark. Here are some tips that will help kick in your inspiration:
1. Change of scenery / Keep a clean workspace
Sometimes all it takes is a change of scenery in order to ignite that creative fire. Find a new surrounding that will sprout creativity. If you work from home, leave the house and hit up a coffee shop. I find that a change in surroundings helps me to get my work done and even inspires new ideas. Another great tip is to create a clean workspace for you to work in. Most people thrive off of their surroundings so, keeping a clean work-space helps facilitate inspiration and productivity.
2. Listen, Read, and Watch
There are many things at our disposal to draw inspiration from. Make sure you are constantly listening, reading, and watching. Make yourself a playlist and listen to it. Music can be a great stimulant and not only does it make you feel good but it can even help you be more productive. Listening to inspirational speeches or TED Talks can also leave you feeling inspired. Reading is also a great key to finding inspiration. Pick up a newspaper or read an article online. Staying connected with world events can inspire you to want to go out into the world and do great things. Kicking back with a fiction book for fun can also spark inspiration because it can trigger new ideas. The same goes for television and films. In short exposing yourself to different art forms can leave you feeling inspired and with a new point of view.
3. Immerse yourself in nature
As cliche as it may sound, going out for fresh air can really make a difference. Go for a walk, sit under a tree, and take in the beauty of the day. As silly as it may sound, immersing yourself with nature will help you clear your mind and get you that much closer to feeling inspired.
4. Surround yourself with positive people
Make sure to surround yourself with positive people who are going to lift you up and not drain you. When you are around positive encouraging people they will help inspire you to want to reach higher in life. Inspiration is all about good vibes.
5. Vision Boards and Keeping a clear vision
Vision boards help to keep a clear vision because they are a constant reminder of what you are working towards. Make yourself a vision board and put it somewhere you will see it every day. Let your vision board be your morning inspiration as you leave your home to take on the day. It can be easy to lose sight of your goals in the midst of your journey. Whenever you’re feeling uninspired go back to your initial vision and draw inspiration from that. Keep your vision clear and let that take priority. When you’re passionate about your vision and where you’re going inspiration sprouts.
6. Stay well rested
Finding inspiration works best when your body and mind are well rested. Make sure you are getting enough sleep. A rested and energized brain is key for inciting inspiration.
7. Are you a morning or night person?
Figure out the time of day when you’re more productive and stick to that time frame. I find that my inspiration is at its best when I work during specific moments during the day.
8. It’s okay to take a break
Learn when to give yourself a break. It’s okay to take a break and walk away from whatever you are working on. It’s important not to force things because this will only lead to dissatisfying results. Instead, take a break, treat yourself and allow yourself to have fun. Inspiration works best when you’re feeling good.
9. Experience new things and write things down
Inspiration can sprout from experiencing new things. Whether it’s experiencing a new city, place or food, get out there and create a new adventure for yourself. You will come home feeling that much more inspired than when you left. Another thing to keep in mind is that inspiration can come at any time. Make sure that when a new idea ignites in your mind you write it down whether that be on a journal or a sticky note on your phone. This will keep your inspiration alive as opposed to forgotten because you will have a place to resort back to.
10. Disconnect to Connect
Sometimes all it takes to ignite some much-needed inspiration is to disconnect from our phones. Disconnecting your phone will eliminate outside distractions and will help you connect with your mind, body, and soul and allow inspiration to seep in.
I hope these tips help you next time you are feeling uninspired. What are some of your tips for finding inspiration? Comment below!
